Automated Gate Services

At Gate-F/X, we handle every stage of a driveway gate project: custom design, entry solutions, gate automation, repair, and maintenance. Whether you're outfitting a single residential driveway in Surrey or coordinating gated access for an industrial site, we assess your property first and build the system around it, not the other way around.

Custom Design

Every gate we design starts with the property, not a catalogue. Terrain, slope, lot width, and how a driveway curves off the street all determine whether a cantilever, sliding, swing, telescopic, bi-fold, or radius gate is the right fit, since no two properties are the same. We work in steel (galvanized before powder coating for corrosion resistance) and aluminum, and we manufacture everything ourselves at our Port Kells facility in Surrey rather than sourcing gates from a third party.

The design process typically runs from an initial site assessment through material and style selection (we offer 22 gate styles across all gate types) to fabrication and installation. Residential clients tend to weigh aesthetics and how the gate reads against the home's front elevation, while commercial and industrial clients weigh clearance, traffic volume, and how the gate integrates with existing fencing. We work directly with both, and we can pair a new gate with a custom fencing system so the entrance reads as one continuous design rather than a gate bolted onto an unrelated fence line.

Entry Solutions

We use quality entry products, namely, Linear and Liftmaster. These products are North American made.

Gate Automation

On the automation side, we work with Italian-made systems, Allmatic, GiBiDi, FAAC, Cedamatic, and Key Automation, along with Liftmaster, and on occasion a specific brand a customer requests.

A full automation package includes the operator itself plus the safety and access layer around it: photo eyes, safety edges, that keep the gate from closing on a vehicle or pedestrian, along with whatever opening method the property needs, a keypad, remote, or loop detector. We install and configure this hardware so it works reliably with access control equipment already on site, such as a building's existing intercom or camera system, rather than replacing systems that already work.

Repair

We repair all makes of gate automation, including systems originally installed by other companies. The most common issues we see are motor strain from worn gears or misaligned tracks, photo eyes or safety edges knocked out of position or blocked by debris, and gates that stop responding to remotes or keypads after a power interruption or a failing control board. Track wear in particular shows up as a gate that jerks or hesitates partway through its cycle rather than moving smoothly end to end.

Because we manufacture and automate gates ourselves, our technicians can diagnose whether a fault is mechanical (the gate structure or track) or electronic (the operator, control board, or safety devices) rather than guessing, which keeps repair visits focused and avoids replacing parts that aren't actually the problem.

Maintenance

We offer maintenance packages built around how hard a gate works. A residential gate cycling a few times a day needs a different service interval than a commercial gate running continuously through a work shift, so we scale the plan to the property rather than applying one schedule to every client. A typical visit covers lubrication of hinges, rollers, and pivot points, a check of hydraulic pressure where applicable, and a functional test of the safety devices in both directions of travel.

Coastal BC conditions (rain, salt air, and freeze-thaw cycles) accelerate wear on hardware that isn't serviced regularly, which is why we recommend scheduling a maintenance visit at least once a year, with more frequent checks for commercial or industrial gates in continuous use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does gate automation cost?

Cost depends on gate type and size, site conditions, and which operator and access hardware the property needs. A swing gate on an existing power supply automates for less than a wide sliding gate that needs trenching and a heavier-duty operator. We provide a free quote after assessing the site so you're pricing the actual project, not a generic estimate.

Do you repair gates you didn't install?

Yes. We repair all makes of gate automation, including gates and operators originally installed by other companies.

How long does gate automation installation take?

A straightforward residential installation on an existing gate can often be completed in a few days. Larger commercial projects, or any project needing trenching, custom fabrication, or an electrical permit inspection, take longer, and we'll walk you through the expected timeline during your quote.

Can automated gates connect to my existing security system?

Yes. We install gate automation and entry hardware so it works reliably with access control equipment already on site, such as an existing intercom or camera system, rather than requiring you to replace what's already there.

How often does an automated gate need maintenance?

We recommend a professional maintenance visit at least once a year for residential gates, with more frequent servicing for commercial and industrial gates that cycle continuously.

Do you offer emergency gate repair?

Our repair and maintenance service runs during regular business hours. If your gate is stuck open or closed, contact us and we'll get you scheduled as quickly as our service calendar allows.
