Driveway Gate Styles

Every driveway gate we build starts with the same question: what does this property actually need? From there, style is where function meets curb appeal. We manufacture out of our Port Kells facility in Surrey, and each gate is really a combination of three choices: the top profile, the infill pattern, and the finish. These can be from our standard 22 styles, or your own design.

Available Driveway Gate Styles

Every gate we build, regardless of whether it is a cantilever, sliding, swing, telescopic, bi-fold, or radius gate, is built around the same three style decisions:

  • Top profile: flat top for a clean, contemporary line, a single arch that rises gently to the centre, or a double arch (sometimes called a bell curve) for a more traditional, estate style look.
  • Infill pattern: solid panels for full privacy, spaced pickets for an open sightline while still defining the property line, or ornamental scrollwork and spear top detailing for a more classic, wrought iron appearance.
  • Finish: Aluminum for a lighter gate with strong natural corrosion resistance, or heavy duty depending on design and application.

Mix and match those three decisions and you land somewhere in our 22 styles. A flat-top, solid-panel steel gate reads modern and private. A double-arch, scrollwork aluminum gate reads traditional and ornamental. Same gate type underneath, completely different look on your driveway.

Choosing the Right Gate Style for Your Property

Style should follow the site, not the other way around. Before we recommend a look, we walk the property and think through terrain, climate, and how the gate actually gets used day to day.

Terrain matters more than most homeowners expect. A sloped driveway pushes us toward a cantilever or telescopic gate, since both clear the ground without a track that ice and debris can jam. A flat, wide opening gives a swing gate room to work, and an arched or ornamental top suits that swing nicely since there is no track to interrupt the line. Tight driveways with limited side clearance are usually a better fit for bi-fold or radius gates, which fold or curve into the space they have rather than needing extra run-back room.

Climate is the other half of the decision. In the Lower Mainland's wet winters, we lean on galvanizing before powder coating any steel gate, since a two-stage finish holds up far better than powder coat alone once the coastal damp gets into a scratch. Aluminum is the lighter-maintenance option and resists corrosion well on its own, which is why we offer both and talk clients through the trade-off rather than defaulting to one.

Matching Style to Gate Type

We will always walk you through which combinations suit your specific opening, rather than starting from a style and forcing the gate type to match.

Choose Gate-F/X for Your Custom Gate Design

Expertise You Can Trust

We have been manufacturing custom gates since 1994, and every gate we design still gets fabricated in-house at our own facility in Port Kells. That means the same team assessing your property is the one building your gate, not a supplier three steps removed from the job.

Unmatched Craftsmanship

Our aluminum gates are finished to hold their look through Lower Mainland winters. Every weld, hinge point, and finish decision is made with the specific climate and site conditions your gate has to stand up to, not a generic spec sheet.

Local Service & Support

We serve residential, commercial, and industrial properties across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, from Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, and Richmond out to Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack. We also repair and maintain gates we did not originally install, so if your current gate's style no longer suits the property, we can talk through a replacement even if someone else put it in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any of the 22 gate styles be built on any gate type?

Yes. Top profile, infill pattern, and finish are independent of whether the underlying gate is cantilever, sliding, swing, telescopic, bi-fold, or radius, so we can carry a style you like across whichever gate type actually suits your driveway.

Does an ornamental or arched style cost more to automate?

Automation is driven mainly by gate weight and opening width rather than style detailing, so an ornamental top does not necessarily mean a bigger automation package. We assess this as part of your free quote.

Can you match a new gate to our existing fencing?

Yes. We build custom fencing systems alongside our gates and can match top profile, infill pattern, and finish so the gate reads as part of one continuous property line rather than a mismatched addition.

Do you offer styles beyond what's shown in the gallery?

The 22 styles in the gallery are built from the same top profile, infill, and finish options across all our gate types, which covers the vast majority of requests. If you have a specific design in mind, bring it to your consultation and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can build.

Will you recommend a style, or do I need to know what I want first?

Either works. Some clients arrive with a style picked out from the gallery, others just describe the property and how they use the driveway and let us narrow it down from there.
